On 7 September 2025, Samaj Kalyan O Unnayan Shangstha (SKUS) organized a Coordination Meeting with the Upazila Agriculture department and relevant stakeholders under the project Enhancing Community Protection, Prevention and Response Mechanism in Coxโ€™s Bazar. The project is generously supported by ChildFund New Zealand and technically assisted by Educo Bangladesh.
The events aimed to strengthen effective coordination among agriculture department, respective service providers and community beneficiaries to ensure helps align programs with community needs, making them more relevant and impactful. SKUS already provided homestead gardening training and distributed farming inputs like; Seeds, Vermicompost, Fencing, Water jar etc. to selected vulnerable women in the Jalia Palong UP. They have already made vegetable gardens adjacent of their home.
In this continuationโ€™s SKUS organized coordination meeting in the Hall room, Agriculture Department, Ukhiya, with participation 26 individuals including representatives from the Agriculture Department, community leaders, relevant stakeholders, selected beneficiaries, and Educo team members.
Taslima begum, Member, Adolescent and Youths (A&Y) club, ward-2, Jalia Palong Union, highlighted and shared the homestead gardening initiatives and A&Y clubsโ€™ activities under the project. She thanked to SKUS & Educo for creating livelihood opportunities along with their awareness activities and meet their nutritional needs and become economically self-reliant.
Relevant stakeholders, beneficiaries and representatives from agriculture department provided some recommendations to improve the quality of work and effective coordinationโ€™s like; need to provide additional seeds and barmy-compost, to encourage local production of crop seeds, avoiding the duplication, arrange exhibition on produced vegetableโ€™s to later, regular monitoring and provide technical support, They emphasis on ensuring the effective coordination in the relevant service providers and need to be initiatives livelihoodโ€™s project for vulnerable women in the host community.
The event was graced by Mohammad Kamrul Hosen Chowdhury, Upazila Nirbahi Officer, Ukhiya as chief guest and Kamnansis, Agriculture officer, Ukhiya has present as the special guest. Upazila Nirbahi Officer expressed his gratuities and thanks to SKUS for organizing the event and to include jalia palon union from their project. He says, Jalia palon union is very remote and negatable, so, need to give more priority on home gardening and livelihood activities in the union. Maintaining the effective coordination with the local representatives of agriculture departments. He requested to everyone to ensure the accountability and quality of the project activities.
Mr. Kamnansis, Agriculture officer, Ukhiya emphasizes several things like; provide support to build sheds to prevent seed loss, need to develop market linkage, distributed quality seeds for quality vegetables, provide more technical training to womenโ€™s, and encourage the use of masks when using pesticides and coordinate with field staff with department of agriculture. He requested to undertake livelihood-based activities in the host community specially in the remote unions.
The Project Coordinator says, the suggestionโ€™s given at the meeting will help us improve the quality of our current activity and plan for the future. He concluded the meeting by thanking all the participants, including the honorable special and chief gust. He also thanked to Upazula agriculture department for their cordial supports.
