Samaj Kalyan O Unnayan Shangstha (SKUS) is dedicated to providing high-quality, inclusive education to Rohingya children and adolescents aged 3–18 through the Myanmar curriculum and Early Childhood Development programs. Supported by UNICEF, SKUS has been actively involved in the Rohingya Refugee Response in Cox’s Bazar, focusing on educational initiatives.
As part of its ongoing efforts, SKUS conducted a Year-End Assessment for students in grades 3 to 9, as well as for children transitioning from ECD 1 to ECD 2, ECD 2 to Kindergarten, grade 1 to grade 2, and grade 2 to grade 3, for the 2024-2025 academic year. This assessment covered 271 learning facilities, including both primary and secondary, in Camps 12 and 18, with the aim of evaluating and ensuring the quality of education provided.

On July 13, 2024, SKUS celebrated the beginning of the new academic year, 2024-2025, at 231 learning facilities and 40 Early Childhood Development (ECD) centers within Camps 12 and 18. The event was marked with enthusiasm and joy. The centers were decorated with balloons, paper flowers, and welcome banners, creating a festive atmosphere. Teachers greeted the children with handcrafted flowers, and some learners organized a cake-cutting ceremony, adding to the celebratory mood with various joyful activities.
The event was graced by Md. Minhazul Islam, Camp in Charge (CiC) and deputy Secretary for Camps 12 and 18, who was the chief guest. Mohammad Akter Hosen, Assistant Camp in Charge (ACiC), Assistant Secretary for Camps 12 and 18, along with the Camp Education Focal and other representatives, also attended the celebration. The event saw participation from program team members, parents, Majhis, community leaders, and various stakeholders at the camp level.
During the celebration, the CiC and other distinguished guests welcomed the children into the new academic year, offering motivational speeches and distributing essential learning materials such as exercise books, pencils, pens, erasers, and sharpeners. The CiC emphasized the importance of cleanliness, adherence to social norms, family discipline, and regular attendance.
The children expressed their happiness and excitement about the new academic year and the learning materials they received. One of Grade 3 students shared, “I am very happy to be part of the celebration. I have been promoted to Grade 3 and received new learning materials, which makes me very happy. However, having school bags would make it even better for us.”
The guests were pleased with the event and commended SKUS for organizing such a successful and inclusive celebration. They expressed their gratitude for SKUS’s continued efforts to ensure quality education for Rohingya children. The SKUS-UNICEF Education project team, along with community members and senior management of SKUS, were actively involved in the event and visited various activities related to the day’s celebrations of the new academic year.
